BREVÍSSIMA HISTÓRIA:

 Embora mercadores holandeses tivessem estabelecido colónias na região antes, os holandeses não tomaram posse do que é hoje o Suriname até o Tratado de Breda, que marcou o fim da Segunda Guerra Anglo-Holandesa.

 Depois de se tornar parte autônoma do Reino dos Países Baixos em 1954, conseguiu a independência em 1975. Um regime militar dirigido por Desi Bouterse governou o país nos anos 80 até que a democracia foi reestabelecida em 1988.

 Suas cidades mais populosas são Paramaribo, Nieuw Nickerie e Meerzorg. Sendo o país dividido em 10 distritos: Brokopondo, Commewijne, Coronie, Marowijne, Nickerie, Para (quem sabe este faça fronteira com o homônimo brasileiro), Paramaribo, Saramacca, Sipaliwini e Wanica.

 A mistura étnica do país está evidenciada nas crenças religiosas. As maiores influências vem de costumes católicos, apesar de existir uma forte tendência hindú. Apesar do holandes ser a lingua oficial, o Sranan (lingua crioula derivada do inglês) é amplamente falada e pouco compreensível.

 O desenvolvimento das artes locais, enquanto sistema das artes organizado, diminuiu devido ao exôdo de grande parte da população erudita, principalmente para a Holanda, devido a melhores oportunidades econômicas, por causa da repressão militar e do red light corner.

REALLY REALLY SHORT HISTORY:

 Although dutch merchants had established colónias in the region before, the dutches had not taken ownership of that it is today the Suriname until the Treated one to Breda, that marked the end of the Second War Anglo-Dutch.

 After becoming independent part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in 1954, he obtained independence in 1975. A military regimen directed by Desi Bouterse governed the country in years 80 until the democracy was reestabelecida in 1988.

 The ethnic mixture of the country is evidenced in the religious beliefs of the people. The biggest influences come of customs catholics, although to exist one strong Hindu trend. Despite the dutch being lingua official, the Sranan (lingua Creole derived from the English) widely is said.

 The development of the local arts is diminished by the leaving of great part of the erudite population, mainly for Holland, which had the best economic chances and also because of the military repression. However, sculptures can be appraised that expresan part of the culture of the indians and the population of black race.
